NERVOUS SYSTEM & BODY-BASED SUPPORT FOR WOMEN
WHAT IS SOMATIC EXPERIENCING®?
Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a body-oriented approach to working with stress, overwhelm, trauma and the effects of difficult life experiences.
Developed by Peter Levine, Somatic Experiencing is based on the understanding that our bodies are designed to move through stress naturally. However, when an experience feels overwhelming, too much, too fast, or too soon, the nervous system can become stuck in patterns of protection.
Rather than focusing primarily on the story of what happened, Somatic Experiencing® works with what is happening in the body and nervous system right now.
The aim is not to relive the past, but to support the nervous system in completing responses that were interrupted, and in restoring a greater sense of regulation, resilience and safety.
HOW SOMATIC EXPERIENCING WORKS
Somatic Experiencing® helps you develop awareness of the sensations, impulses and responses occurring within your body.
Through gentle guidance, we learn to notice patterns of activation and protection held in the body, without becoming overwhelmed by them. Over time, this can support:
MY APPROACH
I am currently training in Somatic Experiencing® and integrate Somatic Experiencing-informed principles into my work alongside body literacy, feminine embodiment practices, nervous system education and Chinese medicine philosophy.
At the heart of all of my work is a simple belief: symptoms are meaningful. Whether they appear physically, emotionally or relationally, they often point towards places where something has become stuck and is asking for our attention.
Somatic Experiencing® offers a powerful framework for listening to the body, understanding the nervous system, and supporting the return of safety, regulation and flow.
